Причина
Эта проблема может возникнуть по одной из следующих причин:
- Носителя установки повреждена.
- Источник установки поврежден.
Разрешение
Чтобы устранить проблему, используйте один из следующих методов:
Скачайте SQL Server из исходного расположения, а затем перезахораните программу установки.
Если вы SQL Server компьютерную сеть, установите его снова с локального диска, а затем перезахораните программу установки.
Переименовать файл Setup.rll. Для этого выполните следующие действия:
Откройте проводник. Для этого нажмите кнопку Начните, нажмите кнопку Все программы, щелкните Аксессуары, а затем щелкните Обозреватель Windows.
Найдите и нажмите кнопку папка: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\resources\1033 .

Введите setup.rll.old и нажмите кнопку Ввод.
Перезахоранить программу установки.

Столкнулся с ошибкой установки Support Tools SQL 2008 R2 RUS на Windows 2008 R2 ENG:

Там же нашлось и решение:
Hi guys,
due to these errors I’ve copied files from folder «1049_RUS_LP\x64\Setup\x64» to the manually created «1033_ENU_LP\x64\Setup» folder.
This helped to install setup support files and to proceed to server installation itself.
After that I also had to copy msi files from «\1049_RUS_LP\x64\Setup» to «1033_ENU_LP\x64\Setup».
Thanks to MS — there is a «Retry» button at this stage 🙂
The following folders are also should be copied from «1049_RUS_LP\x64\Setup» to «1033_RUS_LP\x64\Setup» prior the setup:
msreportviewer90sp1_langpack
sql_common_core_loc_msi
sql_engine_core_inst_loc_msi
sql_engine_core_shared_loc_msi
sql2008support
This way I’ve installed russian SQL Server on english Windows Server 🙂 Tags: sql 2008 r2; windows 2008 r2

This article helps you resolve various errors that occurs when you try to install SQL Server 2008 R2.

Symptoms
When you try to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, you receive one or more of the following error messages or experience one or more of the following symptoms. Additionally, you cannot continue with the setup.
Setup error messages or symptoms
Error message 1
The system cannot open the device or file specified.
Error message 2
Setup.rll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
Error message 3
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
Error message 4
Error message 5
Error occurred during the login process due to bad media.
Error message 6
The cabinet file ‘Sql.cab’ required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.
Error message 7
You cannot select x64 bit installation.
Some components are missing on the Select Component page of Setup.

Cause
This problem may occur for one of the following reasons:
- The installation media is damaged.
- The installation source is corrupted.
Resolution
To resolve the problem, use one of the following methods:
Download the SQL Server image again from the original location, and then rerun the Setup program.
If you installed SQL Server over a computer network, install it again from a local drive, and then rerun the Setup program.
Rename the Setup.rll file. To do this, follow these steps:
Open Windows Explorer. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
Locate and then click the folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\resources\1033 .
Right-click Setup.rll, and then click Rename.
Type setup.rll.old, and then press Enter.
Rerun the Setup program.
If you are using a localized version of SQL Server, you can change the operating system settings to support localized versions. For more information about how to change the operating system settings, see How to: Change Operating System Settings to Support Localized Versions.
Installations of different language versions of SQL Server instances on the same computer are not supported.

У меня стоял MS SQL Server 2008R2. Решил снести — снёс.
Решил поставить ещё раз. И вот тут возникла проблема — не встаёт.
Выглядит следующим образом:
я запускаю SQLEXPRWT_x64_RUS.exe, оно распаковывается.
Появляется окошко с доступными действиями.
Прогресс-бар добирается почти до самого правого края — после чего это окошко пропадает и. и ничего больше не происходит. Совсем.
Пошёл читать логи установки (они находятся в C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log), пошёл в гугла.. Конкретно для этой ситуации решения не нашёл, но нашёл вот такую рекомендацию:
1. В реестре удалить ветки
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
2. Отправиться в HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstal и там удалить все подпункты, в которых упоминается MS SQL Server
3. Пойти в (или на?!) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services, откуда удалить пункты, связанные с SQL Server.
4. Перезагрузиться и запустить инсталляцию ещё раз.
И — помогло ведь. Удалил, перезагрузил, запустил — и пошла установка нормальным образом.
